A Nonprofit Board Program for Your Executives
We run nonprofit board placement for companies, from each executive’s first interview to their seat on the board.
Your Executives Are Asking to Join Nonprofit Boards
Executives at every level ask for help finding a nonprofit board, and most companies have no internal way to vet organizations, match by expertise, or track what happens after. Without that support, executives wait for a friend’s invitation or never serve at all.
The company has a stake in getting this right. A nonprofit board seat gives an executive three to five years of governance experience: the 70 percent of the 70-20-10 model, and the part companies find nearly impossible to create on their own.
How Nonprofit Board Placement Works With BMC
We start with the executive, not a list. Each executive has a personal interview with our team, and we research the nonprofits that fit their passion, interests and available time. The executive ranks their choices, and we confirm openings and make the introductions ourselves. No algorithms, no database access, no self-service portal.
You choose which executives to invite and give us one point of contact. We handle the rest of the work, and programs run six months from launch to nonprofit board seats.
Included in Every Program
- Internal Launch Kit: announcement messaging and templates for inviting your executives
- Executive Board Guide: the questions each executive should ask before accepting a nonprofit board seat
- Grantee Board Priority: placements prioritized at organizations your company already funds
- Board Composition Insight: a view of who serves on each board, to help executives choose the right one
- Impact Reporting Pack: placement data and stories for ESG reporting and internal communications
- Progress Reporting: live status in a private cohort portal, plus monthly reports
A Structured Cohort or Rolling Enrollment
Run a structured cohort, or enroll executives as they raise their hands so no one waits for the next cycle. Programs range from a handful of executives to 150 and above, across the U.S. and Canada.
72 percent of executives we introduce to at least one organization join a nonprofit board. 67 percent of our corporate clients return for another cohort.
What a Nonprofit Board Program Does for Each Team
- HR and Talent: governance experience and practice leading peers who don’t report to them, for senior leaders and the leaders you’re preparing for senior roles
- CSR and Corporate Citizenship: executives placed with vetted organizations in your priority markets, with placement data ready for your impact reports
- Corporate Foundation: your dollars and your leadership go to the same organizations, with placements prioritized at the nonprofits you already fund
- Business Development: your executives serve alongside CEOs, general counsels and business owners in the cities where you do business. Relationships form because people work on something together.
“Board Member Connect has been an outstanding partner to ZS Cares. They’ve helped our leaders find meaningful board placements with non-profits where they can apply their unique skills and make a real impact, and the feedback from participants has been very strong. I’d recommend them to any organization looking to build a board-service program.”
Tony Yeung, Principal, ZS
“Our initial experience with Board Member Connect was extremely positive, and the success of our first cohort gave us the confidence to expand the partnership with a larger second cohort. Their personalized approach connects our employees with nonprofit board opportunities that align closely with their interests and expertise.”

Common Questions
Most are vice president and above. Companies also use the program for leaders they’re preparing for senior or advanced roles.
On average, 3 to 5 hours a month, though it varies widely by organization. Each executive knows an organization’s time commitment before ranking their choices and making a commitment.
Most nonprofit boards ask members to give. Expectations range from a personally meaningful gift to a set give-or-get amount, and they vary by organization. We ask about each executive’s comfort level in the interview, and every organization we present comes with its financial expectations, so executives know before they choose.
If an executive is in the final stages with an organization, we keep working with them for a few additional months. If they’re still waiting on introductions, they move into the next cohort. When someone doesn’t join a board, it’s usually because their time ran short or their ideal seat wasn’t open during the cohort window.
Yes, we research organizations in the markets your executives and your company care about, across the U.S. and Canada.
Fees are set for each program. We walk through them on a call and confirm them in a proposal.
