How It Works

How Nonprofit Board Placement Works With BMC

Every match starts with a conversation with the executive.

Why We Start With the Executive

Some nonprofit board programs match executives to a pool of organizations that applied in advance. If an executive’s interests fall outside that pool, they wait or settle for a seat that doesn’t fit.

We work the other way. We start with the executive, not a list, and find the nonprofit boards that fit that person.

We Know Which Nonprofit Boards Are Ready

We have served hundreds of nonprofit organizations since 2010, which is why we can tell you which boards are financially stable and ready to bring on new leaders. That knowledge shapes every list we put in front of an executive.

Four Steps to a Nonprofit Board Seat

We Listen

Each executive has a personal interview with our team. We learn what they care about, what they bring professionally, how much time they have and what they’re comfortable giving.

We Research

We research and vet nonprofits that fit that executive, then send a curated list with each organization’s mission, board structure, time commitment and financial expectations. The executive ranks their choices.

We Introduce

We contact the top-ranked boards, confirm they have an opening, and make a warm introduction. The executive meets each organization already knowing why it’s a fit.

We Stay With Them

Each executive has a personal guide through placement and onboarding. Most programs run six months from launch to nonprofit board seats.

What Your Team Does, and What We Do

  • You choose the executives. Invite a structured cohort, or enroll executives as they raise their hands.
  • You give us one point of contact. We provide the announcement messaging and templates to launch the program.
  • We do the interviews, research and vetting. Every organization is researched for the executive who will see it.
  • We make every introduction. No executive is handed a list and left to make cold calls.
  • You see progress the whole way. A private cohort portal, monthly reports, and check-ins at month three and month six.

72 percent of executives we introduce to at least one organization join a nonprofit board. When someone doesn’t, it’s usually because their time ran short or their ideal seat wasn’t open during the cohort window. We would rather tell you that than push someone onto a board to protect a statistic.

“I’ve received nothing but positive feedback. Your responsiveness, willingness to answer questions, and overall guidance made a significant impact. I’m so grateful for this relationship with Board Member Connect, and we are very much looking forward to continuing it.”
