For Executives
Serve on a Nonprofit Board Through Your Company
You tell us what you care about. We find the boards.
Finding the Right Nonprofit Board Takes More Than an Invitation
Most executives join a nonprofit board because a friend or colleague asks. That can work, but it often means saying yes to the organization in front of you, not the one that fits your passion and the time you have.
A board seat usually runs three to five years. It’s worth choosing carefully.
We Work Through Your Employer
We partner with companies to place their executives on nonprofit boards, so we don’t take individual applications. When your company runs a program with us, you get a personal interview, nonprofits researched for you, and introductions made by our team. Your company covers the program fee.
How It Works When Your Company Joins
Tell Us What Matters to You
You have a personal interview with our team about the causes you care about, the expertise you bring, the time you have and what you’re comfortable giving.
Choose Your Boards
We research and vet nonprofits around your answers and send you a curated list with each board’s mission, time commitment and financial expectations. You rank your choices.
Meet the Boards You Chose
We confirm openings and make warm introductions, so you meet each board already knowing why it’s a fit. A personal guide stays with you through onboarding.
Who Takes Part
Most executives in our programs are vice president and above. Companies also enroll leaders they’re preparing for senior roles. More than 500 executives have joined nonprofit boards through our programs.
What to Expect From Nonprofit Board Service
- Governance experience: a seat where decisions are made, often for three to five years
- Influence without authority: leading peers who don’t report to you
- New relationships: working alongside senior leaders from across your community
- An honest commitment: about 3 to 5 hours a month on average, and a financial expectation that varies by organization. You’ll know both before you choose.
“I was so happy working with the Board Member Connect team. We identified a number of organizations that were a possibility, but through further discussions with the team, we were able to find a great organization, College Now, which is focused on helping kids with education. I couldn’t be more excited about securing a role on the College Now board.”
